Valley Focus

The Mahoning Valley has the misnomer of being part of the rust belt. While that may have been true in the past, our tri-county area consisting of Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana is now a center for high-tech manufacturing and distribution. We also have affordable housing, recreation, and a low cost of living.

Area Attractions

Inline Mill Creek Park
Lanterman's Mill.

Located in Youngstown Ohio, Mill Creek Park is one of the largest and most natural urban parks in the country. The park sits on 2530 acres, and contains over 36 miles of paved roads and pathways. The park features wildlife refuge areas, several lakes for boating and fishing, and numerous sports facilities. One of our area's sporting highlights is the Peace Race, which winds thru Mill Creek Park each October.

Sports

We love our nearby sports teams like the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins, but Northeastern Ohio is well known for its ravenous football fans. It's only an hour drive from Youngstown to see the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Cleveland Browns. (We're hoping the Browns can win a game next season.) Our state-of-the-art baseball stadium in Niles is home to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers minor league baseball team. The Covelli Center in Downtown Youngstown is home to many sports events and concerts. For memorabilia, it's always fun to take the hour drive to Canton to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Closer to home we have our YSU Penguins, along with great high school teams.

Arts and education

Inline Butler Art Gallery
The Butler Institute.

Our area is rich in history, arts, and culture. The Butler Institute is one of the nation's most renowned museums of American Art. The Arms Museum and the Historical Center of Industry and Labor are both interesting facilities. The eighty member Youngstown Symphony Orchestra performs at Powers Auditorium, and Downtown Youngstown provides a wide variety of world-class entertainment venues. We have a large convention center and new outdoor entertainment site located along the river in Downtown Youngstown.

We are also fortunate to have great educational institutions here in the Mahoning Valley. Along with many high schools and technical centers such as the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, the valley is home to Youngstown State University. Kent State University maintains a branch campus here, and many other prestigious colleges and universities are within an easy driving distance from the Youngstown area.

Local Industry

Our airport is home to the 910th Airlift Wing which operates one of the largest Air Force Reserve bases in the country. We have the longest runway in the state, and can accommodate any type of aircraft under all weather conditions. PIA aircraft mechanical training school has a campus at the airport. There are wide areas of open space near the Airport that can be developed.

Many companies have opened manufacturing plants and distribution centers here due to our centralized location, easy interstate highway access, and stable weather. Ultium Cell, a joint venture between GM and LG, is located in nearby Lordstown, employing over 1300 at a new 2.8 million sq. ft. facility. TJX recently constructed a new distribution center employing over 1000 workers. Foxconn builds most of the iPhones for Apple, and now is also in the EV business with a large manufacturing plant in our valley. Although our area is well known for its long history in steel production and heavy industry, with our 27 industrial parks and a state of the art business incubator, we now have a wide diversity of companies working in everything from electronics and programming, to plastics. We are now known for being a 3-D printing hub, thanks to "America Makes". Even as our business community grows and diversifies, our area is consistently ranked as one of the best areas in the country to live.

If you would like information on up-coming events and accommodations, contact the Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 447-8201, or visit Trumbull, or Columbiana county. Also be sure to visit our regional Chamber of Commerce website for more detailed information about the Youngstown/Warren area.
